Business travellers need travel insurance that can give them the security they need when they are travelling for work. Often moving between countries on tight time scales, business travellers don't have the time to wait around until their luggage arrives so need to be able to replace missing items fast.
Typically, Business Travel insurance policies provide loss, theft or damage cover for mobile phones, tablets and computers, suits and business attire as well as other essentials such as travel documents.
Whilst the cheapest policies only tend to offer the kind of cover you would get on a standard family travel insurance policy (and be aware that some will only cover business items owned by the policyholder rather than those of the business) if you pay a little more you can find that a lot of specific business risks are covered.
For example policies offering an 'Optional Business Upgrade' are likely to offer some or all of the following:
For those who are making frequent trips, an annual multi trip policy makes sense. These allow you to take as many trips as required within the policy term (although policies will limit the maximum length of each trip - usually around 31 days - but ample for most business trips).
Both cancellation and curtailment cover is often important to business travellers as it will normally cover you if it is a business colleague who falls ill preventing or cutting short a trip as well as family members.
As flights tend to be booked directly with airlines rather than through a travel agent as part of a package, Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI) is a potentially useful benefit.
More specialised policies will also cover the costs of flying out a work colleague if a key member of the party was to fall ill during the trip and was unable to undertake their duties.
It is, of course, possible to cover pre-existing medical conditions, golf trips, winter sports, cruises or long stays (the latter normally only on a single trip type of policy).
Be aware that, although most policies offer public liability cover, some do not provide it when policyholders are undertaking business duties on behalf of their company. It may well be that the business's own liability insurance will cover this risk but, if this is the first trip overseas, do check that you are covered for travel abroad.
