When on holiday it is essential to ensure that all areas of your holiday are covered by your insurance policy and not just the canyoning trip. Therefore always remember to fully read the terms and conditions. If you have just taken out insurance and realise it doesn’t fully cover you, then don’t worry, remember that you have a 14 day cooling off period with any insurance policy. It is a good idea to explore all insurance options as, if canyoning is a one off holiday activity, it may be better to look at a single trip policy or even a single activity policy.
What our Experts say
"Are you a thrillseeker? Many standard travel insurance policies will not cover more adventurous sports or activities. If you want to be able to bungee jump, or take a hot air balloon ride or just take part in a spontaneous activity that may be a little on the riskier side then opt for a travel insurance policy which includes or allows you to add on additional cover for more adventurous pastimes. That way you are more likely to be able to say yes!"

Listed below are two policies which offer abseiling cover but please do check the policy documents carefully to ensure they meet your requirements fully.
By adding their optional hazardous activities cover, you can be insured for canyoning with InsureandGo. There is an additional medical excess and conditions apply such as required supervision and the necessary equipment and safety gear so do read all the terms carefully to ensure you comply. If not you may find you do not have the cover you presume.
It is important to ensure you have the correct equipment and are covered for all aspects of your canyoning trip. Equipment includes climbing hardware, static ropes, wetsuits, helmets, specially designed shoes, rope bags, packs and warm clothing. The most common injuries gained from canyoning are fractures and breaks from falling. Other risks are excess water flows or undercurrents which can cause drowning, flash floods that can be extreme and unexpected, hypothermia or heat exhaustion and potholes which can pose a risk to walkers. Despite the seemingly large number of risks, canyoning can be undertaken by those of all ages and abilities.
