Cyprus

Car hire in Cyprus is offered in numerous locations across the country and, of course, at all the major airports and ports. Just start typing in your required location into our search engine and once you have entered your preferred dates you will presented with your car rental options in Cyprus.

Given the beaches, historic sites, mountains and other attractions on Cyprus it's not surprising that car rental is so popular. There are three UNESCO world heritage sites, including Choirokoitia and Paphos which, whilst today being a thriving tourist resort, was once the centre of the cult of Aphrodite. Aphrodite's birthplace was on Cyprus and a temple was erected there by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. You can still see the remains of fortresses, villas, palaces, theatres and tombs. The site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The Nea Paphos mosaics are renowned as being some of the most beautiful in the world.

Cars are available in all shapes and sizes, from open top jeeps (take the hats and suncream!) to the largest family car.

Be aware though that ,whilst pretty much all Cyprus car rental is offered with collision damage waiver and third party insurance, you are still likely to be liable for an excess (£500-£1000 is typical) and damage to the tyres, wheels, underbody and roof. Roads in Cyprus are often potholed and gritty - which means third party insurance policies such as those offered by MoneyMaxim are very popular, as they cover both excesses and these extra areas.

Also be wary of fuel policies - many car rental firms in the country have adopted full to empty fuel policies where you are charged for a full tank at pickup (often at a premium rate) and not refunded if you do not use it all. If you are looking at a shorter hire period or do not plan to use the car much this can be expensive so look to use a company that has a fairer approach such as full to full.
