Car Hire in South Africa

Though you can drive on a UK Driving Licence for up to 12 months in South Africa, an international driving permit is required if you do not have a UK photocard licence. The AA still recommend an IDP as some insurance companies will demand to see one in the event of an accident. Check the terms of your rental agreement as some may also specify the IDP as a requirement.

Insurance

Most car hire in South Africa booked through our site comes with collision damage and theft waivers and third party insurance. Excesses are variable, some bookings will include "zero excess" packages but £1200 is not uncommon for a compact class car. All will have exclusions of windows, tyres and underside of the car - purchasing car hire excess insurance can save you 80-90% of the cost of buying additional protection locally.
