Annual car hire insurance policies allow an unlimited number of trips to be made over the course of the annual cover period, although there are usually limits to how long each single hire can be. The standard single trip limit is 31 days, although some policies have higher limits of 60 to 65 days. All these limits are detailed on the results page of the MoneyMaxim car hire insurance service.
What does this mean? Well, you could take out a car rental policy on the 1st January and hire a car for separate trips of say 30 days for every month of the year (taking the car back and picking up a new one each time) without the need to buy a new policy.
If a longer stay away is required, single trip policies can be purchased for periods up to 180 days.
Policies normally cover a named 'lead driver' and this is the most popular type of policy purchased. However there are options for families who have different drivers going on holiday at different times, where 'dual lead driver' policies enable a number of drivers to be insured under the same policy. Simply run a standard quotation and then use the filter at the top of the results page 'Policies allowing more than one lead driver' to shortlist these policies. Check the details to find out who can be covered and whether hires can overlap.
